I made this box on sitting outside The Plain Tree (https://planetreenotts.com) on Beeston High Road two years ago on a Saturday morning with passers-by who stopped and were persuaded to try their hand at doing something creative. Most chose to string beads, others to make badges and few made boxes with a little help from me. Plane Tree is a community arts and crafts gallery. The website will tell you more.
The box with its lid closed reveals a slightly different lady, but I like it. I made it.
Over the past few years I have made a good few cube boxes as birthday cards or to fill with treats. Here is a small selection.
My last cube box has been quite successful and here is how it started off, as something I drew with the help of a simple Apples app called ‘Graphic’. It is out-of-date now, but then so is my iMac computer. Both are ten years old, but they still work and that is all that matters to me.
What this shows you is how I lay the drawing so it creates a cube box. And here is a blank template which you can easily copy at home:
And this is the kit I use, plus a Laser printer which can print on artpaper/card. Nothing expensive. It takes A4 size card and paper (I also use it to make booklets, as it scores as well as it cuts. You should find something like this in a craft/hobby shop/store near you.
I started making cube boxes during the Covid lockdown and here I am still making them. At close on 81 it helps me stay dexterous and that has to be a good thing. I also like to think that when someone receives one of my boxes I am showing them at I care.
Well, tea calls. I hope this insight into one of the things which keeps me off the streets has entertained/amused you for a few seconds.
Take care. Regards Robert🐰
